“Drake, I’m scared.” The forest shivered with the scuffing of walkers, their soft moaning sending a rapid angst gushing through her veins.
He held her. “It’ll be all right.” Walkers couldn’t withstand the glare from the industrial lamps they had used to surround the shed. Nothing could. Yet, he feared the possibility.
He held her close, overcome by the same infectious angst, and in that moment he blurted out the most ridiculous thing imaginable. “Marry me!”
“You’re kidding!”
“I mean it.”
The ability to grasp the idea escaped her. “Ask me when we get out of this!”
